I heard that erik likes donuts, but i can neither confirm nor deny it.
--------
Heck yeah man. Donuts are awesome.
This is a test post
Is it?!
Let's see how this works.
Does this work?
Really, at this point, I don't have any significant basket weaving experience.

Then you've come to the right place!
It's on!

Snap!
I'd use acrylic.
LOL. no. Everyone knows baskets look best with latex paint.

Welcome!
1) We should have the payment engine available by early July.
2) We have a number of features to allow branding - in fact, we're in the process of rolling out a new "Channels" feature now which will allow you to create your own branded landing page highlighting courses, instructors, and other information pertinent to your organization.
3) Depending on the content, it is possible to copy it; There is no way to protect against this in a web browser - some sites disable right-clicking and text copy through Javascript, but this is only a band-aid that, in general does more to damage user experience than protect content.
4) The "expert mode" settings enable/disable some additional help panes in various course pages.
Hope this helps! If you have any more questions, feel free to send them along.
Cheers,
Erik
Hi Ray! I've posted my responses in-line below:

Couple more questions:
What is intelligent tutoring ? in the course maintenance area?
Intelligent tutoring is a quiz-system designed to allow instructors to use scaffolding and hinting to help students progress through challenging material.
Is it possible to edit discussions for your specific courses ?. for many reasons - as in delete a post ?
It is possible to delete posts in courses that you either own, or are an administrator of.
Is it possible to sort the discussions by latest date rather than have to scroll all the way down?
Great question - we're in the process of adding that right now to make large threads a little more managable. Expect to see that in the next couple of days!
Can you create topics on the discussion area ?. but not have students do the same ?
Not currently - most instructors use these as open forums, though we'd be happy to add that if it'd help out.
The most important one - Yesterday I could have sworn there was an option to make the course public or private ? where has that option gone ?.
There is - we currently limit free users to 2 free private courses; I went ahead and added some more tokens to your account so that you can try things out though - you can view your remaining tokens under the 'Settings' tab at the top - it'll be under 'Available Course Tokens'.
Thanks in advance.

Good luck! If you run into any trouble, don't hesitate to ask.

Erik

Hi Laura-
Just a note - I've modified the gradebook to sort by last name now - please let me know if you run into any other places where it's less than optimal - we love the feedback, and I'm happy to make it more user friendly wherever possible.
Cheers,
Erik

And it would be nice to have the Gradebook alphabitized! (picky - aren't we). As it is, it is almost impossible to use in a school setting where I have 75 or more students in any given course. When I am grading the assignments I notice that it is alphabitizing but it is by first name instead of by last name.
Charles-
Thanks for all the feedback. We're making a couple changes to address the issues you ran into; Let me get back to you ASAP once they're updated, and hopefully you can take a look to make sure they've resolved the problem.
Thanks again!

Logged in today to try creating a test so I'd know what kinds of questions, etc. I will be able to use.
- even when I created a separate "student" login and invited that student login to take the course, I got NO feedback (as either the student or the teacher) as far as the test score. It shows that I completed the quiz, but gives me no indication how I did - and since I intentionally answered all the questions wrong, I'm wondering where all the "hints" are supposed to show up?
- for a Multiple Choice question, which is supposed to have only one right answer, the form uses checkboxes rather than radio buttons, so it lets you submit multiple answers, even thought there's only supposed to be one right one.
A bunch of other things I was looking for, like randomizing question and answer order, creating a question bank and setting up a test to pick six questions at random each time... but I realize you're a new site. But the fact that I got no feedback at all after taking the test... am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Charles Wolff

Hi Charles-
Sorry for the slow reply. No worries, I do understand your frustration; The testing piece is definitely not pilot error - we're in the process of updating the instant notification to students, and the teachers notification that the test has been completed. We're planning to roll out those changes this weekend, so I'll shoot you over an email directly to let you know that it should be working ok.
Thanks again for your patience - we certainly appreciate your feedback!
Cheers,
Erik

Just wondering if there is any news on this, or if you think it was pilot error or what. As far as I can tell, when a student takes a test, they get no feedback on what they got right or wrong (other than a score), and if they take a test that has to be manually graded, the instructor never gets any notification that they have grading to do - and even if I know there's a test to be graded, I can't figure out where it is. I have no email in my nixty mailbox and nothing has come to my regular email. And the only documentation I could find on how tests work was one small paragraph in the User Manual.
Is that really how it is, or did I just miss something major? I really don't mean to be obnoxious (although I will admit I am a little testy because I've been putting in a lot of hours on flash animations this week), but... the way some of the posters rave about how wonderful this site is, I just feel like I must be doing something wrong here...
Thanks for any help you can provide. I'm supposed to upload some things for a class by tomorrow evening (that's what all the flash animation is) and I'm hoping there's more to nixty than I'm seeing so far. Again, apologies if I'm coming off as rude or pushy, I don't mean to...

Charles-
I've added some private course tokens to your account - you should be able to use your normal account to set courses as 'private' now. Can you check to see if that does the trick for you?
Thanks
Erik

Follow up on course privacy - I created a new user, "eln204," and when I log in as that user and "create a course," there is a button there to allow me to make a course private - but when I try to do that logged in as me, "charleswolff", that button does not appear on the "create a course" page. So I don't know if that "privacy setting" thing depends on what you've done in courses you created previously or what, but I would think it ought to appear ANY time you're creating a new course - even if you created courses previously that were NOT private, you might want to create a new one and have it be private.
Thanks...

Charles-
Ouch, that's not good - I'm check this out.
There isn't currently a bug reporting system, but feel free to either post here, or contact me directly at erik@nixty.com.
Thanks again for your feedback!

Okay, some problems with TAKING the tests:
- the biggest one is that when I finish a test and click the link to return to the course, it blows up big time...
| Python | /www/templates/lessons/lessonStudentLessonItem.html in __template__, line 24 |
|---|---|
| Web | GET http://www.nixty.com/lessons/lessonStudentLessonItem |
/www/templates/lessons/lessonStudentLessonItem.html in __template__
...and so on.
Next thing... I'm pretty sure that I set up all my tests to allow the student to re-take the test, but when I'm in the test, the only way to get out is either "reset test" (which clears all the fields) or "finish" - but if I do "finish" and then try to go back and take the test again, it tells me I've "already completed this test!"
When I complete a test, it gives me a score (and I'm not 100% convinced it's scoring correctly, but I'll have to see if I can prove that or not), but doesn't tell me what questions I missed, and although I typed in hints on every possible answer, I never saw any of them.
A couple of possible disclaimers, here: because I'm trying to create the course, test it, and post notes here, it's possible that I have Nixty windows open as two or three different logins at once, and I don't know if that could be confusing the program in some way... also, on the tests, I added the tests to the lesson, captured the link address and then used that link address to direct the users to the test... so something could have gone wrong there.
Also, and I can't 100% confirm this without logging out of this post, but what I think happened at one point was that I was logged in and taking the class, and then when I clicked on the link to take one of the tests, it asked me to log in again. It shouldn't do that, but, again, I may have messed something up by the way I re-posted the link as part of an HTML/text area.
Anyway... I realize it's Saturday evening or Sunday morning where you are, and in any case, we're not going to get this solved without some investigation. Just trying to provide details, and, again, if parts of this are pilot error, I apologize. I will try to investigate further and post back anything else I discover, but that involves creating a new email account and a new Nixty user, etc. etc.
Thanks again for the help you've been. I suppose I should ask, if there is a "bug reporting" system somewhere you'd rather I was posting this stuff in... right now, this is the only way I know of to log this stuff for you.

Hi all-
Roger - it certainly sounds like a bug; That said, I was able to log in and add a multi-choice question without any trouble. Could you let me know basically what to enter to reproduce the problem? I'll take care of it right away.
Charles - glad to hear from you! I looked through our correspondence last October, and noted that we made a number of fixes based on your excellent recommendations. Are you still having any trouble today? If so, I'd love to hear from you - feel free to respond here, or contact me offline again - erik@nixty.com works fine.
Cheers,
Erik
